I run the Exedra Max on both front and rear and find them an excellent tyre. My bike is has modified cams, pistons and a supercharger amongst other things and puts out over 170hp and 160 ft lbs + at the back end and I am getting in excess of 12,000 kms out of the rear tyre and about 18,000 out of the front.

It seems that the tyres in Australia wear out faster than in other parts of the world but give the Exedras a go as I am sure they will put a smile on your face.

Ah tire threads, better that oil threads.

So we have riders running 35PSI rear some running 42PSI rear. Riders getting 3500 miles out of a tire, riders getting 12,000 mile out of a tire. Shit will make your head spin.

I've got 4800 miles on the original METZ on my Commander. The rear is FN shot (slick in the middle and feathered on each side) and the front is not far behind, be lucky to get another 2k on the front.

4800, fn miles. Just ridiculous. I average 38 psi front and 40PSI rear, I'm a believer in not under inflating tires, I've tried it and found it will not improve mileage.
I check the pressure rigorously, almost OCD level. My riding style is a bit aggressive with a good mix of highway and mountain twisters.

I'll be ordering the MICH II even though I only got 7500 miles out of a MICH on my first BIRD it beats the hell out of 4800 on the METZ.
I could tell after 1500 miles the METZ was going to be short lived.

Hey Hornet. I run the recommended 38 psi, but I don't check it as regularly as I should. I'd say it might be a bit less than that most of the times.

The service manager at my dealership told me I should change it asap when I had the 6000 miles service carried out, saying I would maybe get another 700 miles out of it. That was 5000 miles ago!

Thanks Sennaista, still shaking my head It's like a crap shoot with tires, especially the METZ. I swear some of these tires are made of butter.

I've always like the METZ and run them on my other bikes, but I've owned two BIRD's and for me they eat em like women eat chocolate bars.

I have a slightly similar issue with my dunlop. Imagine just one of those cracks in that pic, but it's about 1/16" deep and starts near where the tread meets the sidewall and extends in towards the center about 3" long. Then another directly opposite of it and the other side. Looks almost as tho the tire is separating at a mold line. I'm not tossing it tho, i will take my chances because the damn thing is not even 1/2 done and my last one i tossed when 1/2 done due to road debris slashing it. I can't afford this shit normally let alone being out of work.

Before I bought the Tbird, I owned a 99 Yamaha RSV,[Royal Star Venture] bought brandy new in 99.When rear tire time came,[this bike used bias tires] a bunch of us with the same machine, decided to try the Metzsler cause they had a pretty good write up.Well, every single one of em, either cracked in the middle, just like the one shown above ,OR,CHUNKED OUT.In other words, large pieces of rubber were coming off the tire while drivin down the road at highway SPEED.Talk about a surprise!!! Now the Yamaha RSV is a full blown Touring Machine weighing in around the 900 lb.mark with accessories. Metzsler made good on every tire,[but not without a shit load of aggravation first] and the new replacement tires did the same exact thing.Needless to say,we immediately dumped Metszler, [and will bad mouth em at every opportunity] and went to anything as long as it wasn't a Metszler. If memory serves me correctly,we replaced the Mets with Dunlop's Elite!!,then later, with the Elite!!! tires, on the back which worked out very well indeed. Today,I would not buy, recommend, or use a Metsler tire on my wheel barrel, never mind my motorcycle. But each to hiis[or her] own!!! Carry on gentlemen!! Dave!!!

Only got 4700 miles out of the original rear Metz.
NEVER again!
Went with the Dunlop AE, and it has 10,000 miles, & like the Energizer Bunny, it's still going.

The ride may be fun, but in the Great Scheme of things, it really is about the destination! John 3:16

Talk about good timing - picked up a small puncture on this yesterday which is now plugged. Should last till I get the tyre changed in a couple of weeks.

I got 7000 miles out of rear metz and 8000 out of front. Switched to michelin commanders now. Big difference in handling and ride. Had great luck with them on my America and my Harley riding buddies swear by them as well.

I was also disappointed with the life of the original metzlers. I got about 6500 miles from the original rear - this was pushing it. I would say the tire would not have passed inspection at around 5,000 miles! I am now also running the michelin commander II's front and back. They seem to handle a bit better. Hopefully they will last a lot longer as well.

i went with the exedra's both front and rear, wear seems good but i don't like the way the front tires throws water out the sides of the fender then wind wash it up onto the tank and my legs, will likely try the Michelin next.

I too tried a pair of the Exedras which worked out quite well. However, like the rest of em,they too came up short on mileage, but did NOT crack in the center as was the case with the Metzslers. So for me,and after running just about every tire made,[and I've run just about all of em] I have chosen Avons' AV71 for the front, and Dunlops AE for the rear as they have given me good service in handling and mileage. But that's me!!
